Silver Creek CSF Bookshelf Literacy Project at Montgomery Elementary
Lisa Tran fundraising for Reach Potential Movement
Our Silver Creek CSF group is teaming up with Reach Potential and Rainmaker Properties at Montgomery School to help kids read!
On Saturday, Oct 22nd, our Silver Creek CSF group will be partnering with Montgomery Elementary to help kids read! Our campaign goal is sponsoring 70 Kindergarten kids so they can receive their own bookshelf and books to begin or grow their personal library! In addition their parents will receive a parent education workshop to help their child succeed! Our project costs are approximately $30/child and this year we're excited to team up with Rainmaker Properties who has pledged to match dollar for dollar every child we sponsor! THANK YOU RAINMAKER http://www.rainmakerproperties.com/
PABLO'S STORY
At one of our Bookshelf projects, Pablo said with wide open eyes, “Para mi?!” (“For me?!”) . He said it with regard to his very own bookshelf and the favorite books he picked out, and he said it as if he couldn’t believe it was really his-- as if he didn’t know what he had done to deserve it, but that he was elated to receive it nonetheless.
At each school we hear the same vision-- helping a child LEARN TO READ in their kindergarten through third grade years empowers them to READ TO LEARN for the rest of their lives. As a listening partner to educators, we have designed our Bookshelf in Every Home project that brings low income Mountain View and Sunnyvale families to their child’s school to decorate with their child their personal bookshelf and to “shop” for free books. Afterwards, the children read their new books and play games with volunteers while their parents participate in a Parent Equipping Workshop on the importance of supporting literacy at home.
