I'm going to Sierra Leone to raise money for Restless Development, the kick-ass development organization that I went to Zambia with in 2007.

Dear friends and family,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page! This March, I will be traveling to Sierra Leone to raise money and awareness for Restless Development.

Restless Development is the international non-profit that many of you know from stories of my trip to Zambia in 2007. The organization is over 25 years old and supports, trains, and inspires young people to improve their lives and their communities. Restless is now working in 9 countries in Africa and South Asia, educating young people on health issues, HIV/AIDS and providing leadership and employment training programs. Having witnessed these programs first hand, they are incredibly effective. A dollar goes a really long way in Sierra Leone, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Please read more about Restless Development and its programs at www.restlessdevelopment.org.

Sierra Leone will be both wonderful and difficult challenge for our group. As you may know, the country is still recovering from a brutal 10 year civil war, during which thousands were killed or maimed. Soon after the conflict ended, Restless Development was invited to initiate programs in Sierra Leone, and for over eight years has been working to solve the underlying issues of high youth unemployment and HIV prevalence.

Our small group of travelers will be placed in a rural community and be working for the week under two of Restless Development’s full time, local volunteers. The plan will be to deliver activities through schools and youth clubs, giving young adults the tools to teach others. Living conditions in these villages are pretty (very) basic; mud huts and straw roofs, and no running water or electricity. That’s the challenge part!

I am hoping that I can count on your generous support so that Restless Development can continue to provide the help that the people of Sierra Leone so badly need. Our group has chosen to raise money on the Razoo site, which is simple, fast, and totally secure.

Please sponsor me for a great cause!

Sincerely,

~Summer
