The students of Mrs. Sharp's Second Grade Class have committed to nightly reading in order to raise funds for classroom technology.

Ms. Sharp read many books to us this year. One of our favorites is Frindle. Here are some of the reasons why we enjoyed this book.

  • Nick, the main character, is very clever and had a couple of tricks to take up classroom time. For example, he would keep talking just before his teacher was about to assign homework.
  • Nick suggested that the class make-up a new word for the word pen, so they created the word frindle. Everybody in the class talked about the word frindle and started using it. They thought it was fun!
  • The principal told the students that if they used the word frindle, they would have to stay after school with Ms. Granger and write 100 times “I am writing this punishment with a pen.” When Ms. Granger stopped checking, the students wrote, “I am writing this punishment with a frindle.”
  • Ms. Granger is a very strict teacher and has eyes that are very powerful. She uses them to make the children behave properly.
  • When they took their fifth grade class picture, they all held up a pen and everyone said frindle instead of cheese. The photographer could not retake the photo because he ran out of film.
  • The word frindle spread throughout the city, all over the country, and internationally to Tokyo, Japan.
  • We thought the book was funny and other classes should read this book.
