On Monday, April 16th 2012, I will be running 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon and giving it my all in support of Mass Mentoring.

Mass Mentoring is a statewide organization dedicated to strategically expanding youth mentoring in Massachusetts. All children have the potential to succeed in life and contribute to society; however, not all children have the support they need to strive. Children’s mentors are sometimes seen as role models. Mentors provide a sense of stability. Through successful mentoring, constructive friendships are born. The mentee learns to recognize their strengths and grow in confidence.

I’m not only running to support Mass Mentoring, but I’m running for someone very close to my heart; my Little Brother.

I remember the first time I met my Little Brother. It was Halloween weekend 2009 when I met Keven, a shy 7 year old boy with his 2 brothers and what looked like a very overwhelmed. It took him a while to open up to me and I didn’t know it at the time, but this would be the beginning of a very special friendship. I signed up to be a Big Sister, determined to have an impact on a child’s life, but in the end it was Keven who had an impact on mine. Keven comes from a tough upbringing and sometimes I just want to take him away from everything. When we meet up I am able to focus on him one on one. For just a few hours a week I’ve been able to give my Little Brother a road map to his future. Being a Big Sister has given me more than I can describe and has reminded me that the simplest things in life can make the biggest difference to someone.

I am preparing form something very important to me and I am writing to you to ask for your support in this effort. I’ve set a goal and plan to make achieving it possible. By participating in this fundraising, I hope to raise awareness for Mass Mentoring and prove to my Little Brother that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

I’ve agreed to raise a minimum of $4,000. My personal goal is $5,000, but I’ll need your help. Would you please consider making a small tax-deductible donation to help me meet my goal? Every little bit helps.
