SUSTAINABLE FARMING ASSOCIATION OF MINNESOTA

The Sustainable Farming Association of Minnesota is the leading support organization for sustainable and organic farmers in the state. We have many non-farmers who are members as well. Here are just some of the projects we are currently engaged in:

• Assisting farmers and consumers to become aware of public policy issues which affect sustainable agriculture, local food, direct marketing and the environment.

• Increasing opportunities for farmers and consumers to connect, expanding access and availability to local food.

• Educating new and beginning farmers on the prospects of agri-tourism, and educating them on legal requirements, insurance, expenses and other aspects of adding a new business to the farm.

• Expanding opportunities for farmers in northern Minnesota to access federal or state-level inspection facilities for meat processing.

• Exploring the reasons some beginning farmers don’t succeed initially, and developing educational support materials to enhance success.

• Helping to create new markets for unique food products which can provide producers with additional enterprise opportunities, and provide consumers with access to locally produced foods.

The SFA Annual Conference is the keynote address in sustainable agriculture annually in Minnesota.
