From Secondhand Hounds to dog costume model?! Our dogs are the best!!

Secondhand Hounds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue. Since our founding in 2009, we've rescued over 6,279 dogs, cats and critters.

Secondhand Hounds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue. Founded in July of 2009, our 300+ foster homes, 500 volunteers and staff members have made a positive impact on the lives of many dogs and cats in our community. Our organization provides safe shelter, proper veterinary care and daily necessities for animals at risk, while working hard to find each a permanent, loving home!

At any given point, Secondhand Hounds has approximately 200 animals in our care. Each of these animals receive:

  • spay or nueter surgery
  • distemper vaccines and boosters
  • rabies vaccination
  • heartworm test
  • FeLV testing and medication
  • monthly preventative
  • dental care if needed
  • orthopedic surgery and aftercare if needed
  • care for illness and injury
  • food appropriate for their nutritional needs
  • access to free training
  • supplies to ensure the foster can provide the best possible care (crate, bedding, toys, leash, collar, etc.)

In 2013, Secondhand Hounds started a unique program fulfilling a critical community need by implementing a feral cat management program. Fab Ferals, part of our Consignment Cats & Critters program is dedicated to providing permanent living situations for feral and semi-feral cats and kittens. Our Fab Ferals are sterilized and given the opportunity to live in transitional housing. Some cats who have proper temperaments will be adopted into forever homes, while others will be placed on farms or other rural properties to live out their lives in a suitable environment.

In 2012, our rescue invested over $368,000 in emergency and standard veterinary care. Secondhand Hounds loves all animals, and regularly goes above and beyond for difficult veterinary cases. Our ability to provide such thourough care is directly due to the support we receive from you.

We invite you to give generously to Secondhand Hounds as we plan for additional growth and strategic development in 2014.

Rachel Mairose, Director

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you kindly for your very generous donation to Secondhand Hounds. It is thoughtful gifts like these that allow our rescue to thrive, and to continue our efforts in the community and beyond.
Please know that your donation is more than "just a donation".
Gifts like yours, donated to our general fund, enable Secondhand Hounds to pay for veterinary bills - which may come in the form of a routine exam, or a complicated but critical surgical procedure. Your gift could also be used to support our foster homes, who care for and nurture our animals available for adoption until they find their forever home. Capital improvements may also be a target for your gift - as our rescue grows, we will strive to maintain the best facilities to care for our rescue animals.
We make every effort to apply gifts like yours to where they are needed most. Please know that your donation will be used with sustainability and responsible stewardship in mind.
