Every person, like you, who takes action to prevent child abuse starts a ripple effect that continues to create lasting change in our community. Although child abuse affects families of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, it can be prevented.

Your support enables SCAN continue prevention programs that work to educate parents, strengthen our community’s support for families, and advocate for children who have been abused or neglected. Your support will assist SCAN’s Parent Education facilitators in helping parents build skills, adopt positive parenting techniques and improve their relationships with their children. Last year, SCAN's Parent Education Team educated over 200 parents and helped them build skills to become better parents.

Your support also assists SCAN’s Public Education team in educating the Northern Virginia public through our Pause for a Child campaign (www.pauseforachild.org) and online Parent Resource Center. Last year, over 18,000 campaign materials were distributed to families across Northern Virginia.

Your support enables SCAN’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program to train and supervise volunteers to serve as a powerful voice for abused and neglected children in our community, one child at a time. There were 85 CASA volunteers last year who donated 8,392 hours to advocate for 177 children in Alexandria and Arlington.
