I'm going with HEAL Ministries to Uganda over spring break to serve with and learn about the various ministries I could work for next year.
For the past 6 years, I have traveled over to Ghana, West Africa to work with and teach children at an orphanage called Village of Hope. Last summer, I spent 3 months in a different village in Ghana starting a reading program.
It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Every day I was faced with a new challenge. Whether that was worms in the water, no electricity, getting sent to 3 different doctors to diagnose a common bacterial infection, not making progress with my students, conflicts with my team, not understanding the local languages, even not understanding kids when they spoke English, God helped me through it all.
This summer I learned that an easy life is not worth living. Life is going to be full of struggles beyond my comprehension, but with God all things are possible. I am excited to face these struggles. I want my life to reflect God's glories, not my own.
Over the past 6 months, God has continued to put Uganda on my heart. I feel great about my work in Ghana, and confident that they have the resources to grow without me. Uganda has been faced with war, hunger, and all kinds of injustices. They have lost many people and whole villages have been destroyed. More than anything, they need hope for a future. God is the only one to provide them with that.
I want to show them that God has a plan for them, to give them an education. There's no way that I could begin to pay for the resources I'll need to teach them, but with your help, Uganda will have hope.
What I'm asking of you is to support me in my journey to glorify God and to teach the children of Africa; I can't do it without God and I can't do it without you. This trip is just the start of the the amazing works God has in store for His story.
