The Toddler Center provides quality, affordable childcare for 1 - 3 year olds inspired by the RIE philosophy of Magda Gerber.
Respect for children builds respectful children.
Having just celebrated Thanksgiving, I have been thinking a great deal about gratitude. There is much to be grateful for - knowing I can feed my family, having a safe place for us to sleep at night, and for those wonderful (and always testing) children in my life.
I hope that you are similarly grateful for being a part of the Santa Cruz Toddler Care Center (SCTCC) community, as I certainly am. As both a parent of two and as President of the Board of Directors, I count myself lucky to have gotten involved with the SCTCC. This amazing group of dedicated teachers and staff play a tremendous role in the care and development of our little ones.
The dedication of the SCTCC staff is remarkable. Despite the low wages inherent to the childcare profession, the staff turnover is incredibly low. Several teachers have been with the center for more than a decade, and Program Director, Nora Caruso is closing in on her ninth year with SCTCC.
What’s more, this year marks a major milestone for SCTCC Administrative Director, Sandy Davie who will celebrate her 25th year with SCTCC this February! Sandy has literally seen a generation of children come through the doors and grow up. She remains a tireless advocate in the community for young children, and even won a United Way Community Hero award for her efforts.
You have seen first hand what an incredible program that the SCTCC offers by embodying the RIE philosophy. Our children become empowered and empathetic under the staff’s excellent care.
The SCTCC is a model childcare center. Sandy, Nora, and the entire staff not only help our children become their better selves, they help us become better parents and they help other centers provide better care to thousands of children.
Now I ask you to help them by making a yearend gift, and that you consider us if your employer has a matching program for nonprofit donations.
- Your $50 gift provides 3 organic, vegetarian meals cooked onsite for 16 toddlers.
- Your $75 gift provides one month of cloth diaper service for SCTCC children.
- Your $100 gift provides the actual cost of a full day of quality, RIE inspired childcare for one child.
- Your $300 gift will provide the entire cost of one parent education meeting, including instructors, child care, and refreshments.
- Your $500 gift will completely overhaul our toddler art center – complete with water color and tempera paint, brushes, paper, chalk, glue and other craft supplies.
I hope you will join me in making a gift in recognition of Sandy's many years of service, in recognition of the exceptional work that the SCTCC does, and in recognition of how much you value being a part of the SCTCC community.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year,
Santa Cruz Toddler Care Center
