Thank you for supporting my marathon effort and the programs & services of Wediko Children's Services!
I am training for the 2012 Boston Marathon® as a member of the Wediko Marathon team. This team is committed to raising money for children and families struggling with emotional, behavioral, & learning issues. Running a marathon, even the Boston Marathon, pales in comparison to the challenges so many children and their families will face this year.
I was honored when I found out Wediko accepted me to be a member of their 2012 Marathon team. I have a personal interest in this wonderful organization. Many of you know how difficult life has been for my son, Tyler.
For those who don't, I can begin by telling you I adopted him from Ethiopia when he was just 1 year old. He was diagnosed with Autism at 3 and then the diagnosis was changed to Aspergers last year. He is now 13 and is the most unique, caring, sensitive person ever. After being tormented at public school, he attended a private boarding school, supposedly the best. He never complained, but also never liked it. When I found out he was being bullied I pulled him out. He is now living with me in Boston and attending the most amazing Special Ed. Public School and receiving services from Wediko. Tyler never liked school and now loves it. I take my lunch hour when Ty gets off the bus to meet him at home. I look so forward to asking him about his day when it's fresh in his mind. He loves telling me about it.
Every parent has different dreams for their children. When Tyler used to come home from school crying every day my dream was for him to be happy and to like school. He is soooo happy :)
My heart melts when I think about all the children who don't have a supportive family and whose lives have been changed by the caring Wediko professionals.
Wediko Children’s Services provides support and guidance to both staff and students throughout New England. School-based services include clinical and program consultation, individual and family therapy, Side by Side Social Skills groups, and professional development for school staff. The work and support of Wediko makes a real difference in the lives of so many. But like all non-profits, fiscal uncertainty is a reality every year. The Wediko Marathon Team supports these invaluable services. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. You can also send your donation directly to me, at my home address. Checks should be made payable to Wediko Children’s Services. My goal is to raise $6,000 by January 30, 2012. Please consider making a contribution today! All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated by the children and families Wediko serves! Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
I will let you know how training goes. When those hills seem impossible, I will be thinking of everyone who has faith in me and keep putting one foot in front of the other :)
With my heartfelt thanks,
