I'm trading in my swimsuit for a tool belt again this year and heading to St. Bernard's Parish with the United Way to make a difference.

With the recent tragedy in Haiti, I thought about how much our country gave to the people of Haiti in their immediate need. But I also thought about the people in our own country who are suffering, close to five years later, from the natural disaster that hit the gulf coast. It is imporant to help the people in Haiti right now, but it is also important to remember that places hit by devestating acts still need help long after the telethons and news broadcasts are over.

That is why, instead of planning a beach vacation this spring break, I am going back with the United Way to help those in our country that still need it. This year I will be in New Orleans in St. Bernards Parish. Every home in St. Bernards Parish was under water in August of 2005. The United Way of Greater New Orleans has teamed up with the St. Bernards Project and has put hundreds of families are back in their homes, but thousands still need help.

For anyone who hasn't heard about my trip to Biloxi last year, it was absolutely life changing. I am happy to say that this year I will be going back and teaming up with a lot of great friends that are also choosing to help again this Spring Break. My experience in Biloxi was turned into a PSA for the United Way and you can see it through the youtube video below.

I am absolutely thrilled about this opportunity, as I feel it was a once in a lifetime experience. Everyone was very generous in helping my trip last year and I am asking for some help this year as well. If you know anyone who would be interested in helping, it would be greatly appreciated.

All the money will go towards my stay while in New Orleans as well as my flight. Anything raised over what I need will be donated to the United Way of Greater New Orleans and the St. Bernard Project to help the community after my Spring Break is over.
