Save a Life Drive 2010!
The cat pictured above, Maddy, and the dog, Juliet, are available for adoption at Austin Pets Alive. To see all our adoptable animals, please visit www.austinpetsalive.org !
As some of you are aware, APA! (Austin Pets Alive) recently acquired its own shelter. It's quite impressive, one building for dogs and one for cats. In addition there is a surgery room, parvo room, time out room for "bad" dogs, etc. But naturally a shelter isn't all that is needed. In order to continue pulling dogs and cats off the euthanasia list we're going to need to raise more funds. The Save a Life Drive gives us the ability to continue saving lives when adoptions and donations tend to decrease in the fall after school starts. As you can imagine, the numbers of animals needing to be saved does not correspondingly decrease this time of year so it is even more critical that give all those dogs and cats a happy ending. Just Monday, we picked up 13 bottle baby kittens that came into TLAC and had to be removed by us within hours if they were to be given a chance at life.
Each animal costs us about $100 for spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, testing, and parasite treatments. And that is for the healthy animals. Imagine the costs of those animals not in "perfect" condition (remember the dog set on fire by his girlfriend's ex? Well Phoenix was taken in by APA, rehabilitated at a high cost and is now a happy adopted camper). If we raise those funds, it will be that much easier for APA to continue paying the costs for housing, adoption sites, vehicles, and all the other costs that go into saving lives. If APA can raise $50,000, we can be assured that we will be able to afford to save the next 500 lives that need our help. Don't worry, I'm not asking you to donate $50K. :-D
