Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As you may know, on Monday, April 16,2012 I will be running the Boston Marathon to raise funding for Summer Search. I am a member of Summer Search’s Board of Directors of Summer Search since 2009 and am raising funds for Summer Search because of the extraordinary outcomes this organization produces.

In Boston, Summer Search works very closely with 375 low-income high school students, providing them with three things: (1) weekly mentoring by full-time staff;(2) scholarships to participate in life-changing summer experiences with programs like Outward Bound and the Experiment in International Living; and(3)college
advising during senior year.

The results stemming from these activities are impressive: 100% of Summer Search students
graduate from high school and 89% graduate from college! This college graduation rate tremendously exceeds the 14% graduation rate achieved by students
in the Boston Public High Schools.

The average annual household income for a Summer Search student is $22,000 for a family of four. By helping Summer Search kids attend college we are making an investment that will last for generations. Children whose parents have a college education are more likely to go to college than those kids whose parents lack a college education. Therefore, college graduation is key to change their future and break the poverty cycle.
