In April, we head to Cairo to be ministry servant learners while furthering peacebuilding and reconciliation between Christians and Muslims.
This will be our first ever mission trip together so we are very excited to see how God will use us to bring about His will for our marriage and for the people we will encounter while in Egypt. For a quick overview, please view the video clips above to understand a bit about where we're going and why.
We will spend ten days in and around Cairo, mostly in the city of Manshiyet Nasser, also known as "Garbage City." The residents of Garbage City, the Zabbaleen, make their livelihood out of collecting, sorting, and recycling various types of garbage generated mostly by the inhabitants of Cairo. We will work alongside our host, the Cave Church, as they minister to the local disadvantaged and disabled children of Garbage City. We will also be meeting up with the area Imams to help bridge the gap between Christians and Muslims through relationship building and prayer.
Our NCC missions team has also been blessed with an amazing opportunity to work in partnership with 2012 Nobel Peace Prize nominiee Mama Maggie, a Christian ministry leader dubbed the "Mother Teresa of Cairo" who founded Stephen's Children, a ministry dedicated to helping both Christian and Muslim families living in Cairo's garbage slums and other impoverished rural communities in Upper Egypt. This trip will be an amazing opportunity to learn about the Egyptians and their culture, and to see the ways the Lord has been working in these communities. We are truly grateful for this chance to not just be passive learners but to actively partner with local leaders to address the needs of their community and to join in ongoing efforts of peace-building and reconciliation between Christians and Muslims in Egypt.
Some of you are asking yourselves "how can I help?" Well, the main ways that you could assist us is through encouragement, prayers, and fundraising support. No prayer or donation is too small as every little bit helps us reach our goal and will be a great blessing to us! Whether you are able to support us financially or not, please continue to lift us and our team up in prayer. We really truly appreciate each and every gift from the bottom of our hearts!
