A project of CHICAGO RUN
Chicago Run operates and supports running programs for children and youth in Chicago.
For the past three years, I have been privileged to work at Chicago Run and have been inspired on a daily basis by our students, teachers and volunteers. Watching our students train hard to cross the finish line at our events has inspired me to do the same! To add to my motivation, my dad has agreed to train with me and run our first marathon together. For the past five months, we have been training for the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in honor of his 60th Birthday and perhaps to prove to ourselves what my dad always preaches-nothing is impossible! We have each logged over 500 miles. We are so excited to get to do our part this year to raise awareness and funds for our programs.
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a neighborhood where my siblings and I could play outside on the streets and had countless opportunities to engage in physical fitness both at school and outside of school. Sadly, this is not the reality for many of the children Chicago Run serves. Our programs provide students with the opportunity to run, play games and receive awards for achieving goals. In many instances, Chicago Run allows kids to "be kids," despite the circumstances that may surround them. Even to this day, my dad loves "being a kid" and making the dullest task fun, which has been quite helpful as we've run for hours together each week (a huge thank you to my mom for being so supportive during our training schedule :) ). I know that by helping to provide opportunities for Chicago children to learn the benefits and fun of being healthy and active will inspire both of us as we run each mile on October 7th.
We are so grateful for any support you can provide.
