Running this marathon represents the freedom I have and the freedom I hope sufferers of Parkinson’s disease can one day regain.

My mother has been an incredible inspiration to me. She raised me ; giving me every opportunity that life has to offer. She is the strongest woman I know. In 2003, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. While this is the type of news that would make most people cower, she never wasted a single minute wondering “Why me?” She forged ahead-never complaining, never feeling sorry for herself. My mother represents the woman I can only hope to become.

Over the years I have struggled with self destructive behavior; For me, running this marathon represents a personal fight. One that I will continue to win. I will be running two 1/2 marathons and The Chicago Marathon. My first one is March 28, 2010 in Oakland, CA.

Raising money for The Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center offers the opportunity to participate in life altering research and advancements in patient care. The Institute is made up of three principal components— a patient clinic, and two centers for clinical and basic research. It has helped thousands of patients better manage their disease, developed new treatments for PD, and published groundbreaking research aimed to close the gap between science and practical care. Their research will hopefully advance new treatments, or even better, develop a cure for PD.

Combining clinical care and research, The Parkinson’s Institute is uniquely positioned to lead in the search for a cure for PD

You can help by sponsoring me in this race. Your tax deductible gift will help the Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center provide programs and services for those suffering from Parkinson’s disease, as well as increase their capacity to continue groundbreaking research.

Please join me in supporting the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

Thank you for your support!

Nonprofit Information

  • Summary

The Parkinson's Institute was started in 1982 when a group of young Bay Area drug addicts appeared in emergency rooms unable to move or speak. Dr. Langston was able to discover that the cause of their disorder was their injection of a drug known as MPTP which produced a condition virtually identical to advanced Parkinson's disease. Gradually, a group of dedicated scientists was assembled to pursue their dream of solving the puzzles of movement disorders. Today, we treat more than 2500 patients each year and conduct extensive research programs. The Institute is the only comprehensive, independent medical research institute in the world dedicated solely to studying movement disorders.
