In February I am running in the Princess Half Marathon for Princess Alice and RETT Syndrome research
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Team Alice!
Alice is 6 1/2 years old and was born with Rett Syndrome.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Alice and her Mom Soojung for over 4 years. Alice was a member of my preschool class. What gift it was to have Alice in my class and get to teach her and learn to communicate with her through her PODD.
Rett Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder which causes many physical challenges. Like most of Rett girls, Alice cannot talk, walk or use her hands. She has very weak muscles and poor coordination. She has trouble sitting up straight because of the curvature of her spine. Also, she suffers from seizures.
Despite her challenges, though, Alice is a happy girl. She loves to be around her friends, brother and sister, loves to cuddle with Mommy, Daddy and Grandparents! Loves Laurie Berkner's music, Curious George stories, and Barbies. She absolutely loves going to our church and attend children's chapel. She also loves going to school. She's learning to communicate by using a computer system that tracks her eye gaze since she can't talk or use her hands. She also uses a PODD book that has pictures of things she wants to say which she can scan by looking at the pictures. Every movement is challenging for Alice because her body doesn't always follow the comands her brain makes but she overcomes the difficulties with determination and willingness - for examples, sometimes she is able to use her hands to activate a toy or push a button, she tries so hard to stand up straight with her wonderful PT. What a strong, patient and amazing little girl she is!!! Alice inspires so many people around her every day with her beautiful smile!
So Team Alice is asking you to help Alice and so many other Rett girls who are suffering every day. There is nothing to help these girls right now short of managing the terrible symptoms with various drugs and therapies. But, Rett Syndrome has been proven reversible! Help us find a cure for Alice by donating to the research fund.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Team Alice will be running the Disney Princess Half Marathon in honor of Alice to raise research funds for Rett Syndrome and also raise awareness. We thank you for your support - and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! Thank you so much!!!!! GO TEAM ALICE!
