Give to the Max to support Back on My Feet!
Today, November 9th, thousands of area residents are going to show their support for their favorite nonprofit as a part of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington. Over the course of these 24 hours, every donation and donor we get will go further to help us claim our share of more than $100,000 in awards.
Back on My Feet is participating in Give to the Max in order to strengthen the program and ultimately affect the Greater Washington community. To show you how their work positively affects individuals experiencing homelessness, I wanted to share the following story:
Chris joined Back on My Feet just over a year ago as a resident of Emery House, a transitional shelter for homeless men who are employed. He ran his first marathon at age 26, but under strikingly different circumstances from most runners: his race course was within prison walls.
Chris was serving a 14 year prison sentence for a serious crime committed as a young adult. Running and yoga helped him recreate himself, an experience he hopes to bring back to current inmates.
Although he found himself homeless upon his release, he quickly found community and family in his participation with BoMF. He has completed numerous races and through his participation with Back on My Feet, Chris was able to obtain his yoga certification. He teaches yoga in addition to a part time sales job, and hopes to open his own yoga studio in the near future.
I’m asking you to help me, Back on My Feet and the Greater Washington community by being a part of the “Power of 10.” By donating just $10 you can help someone get back on their feet through this great program. If you can’t donate $10, then consider forwarding this e-mail to 10 friends or family members.
Help spread the excitement. Tell your friends and family why you think they should help us with their donation. Please be our champion, and help us see your donation to the MAX!
