Caroline suffers from Rett Syndrome, a rare and debilitating neurodevelopmental disorder that mainly affects girls and interferes with their ability to perform tasks most of us take for granted. Rett Syndrome prevents Caroline from expressing herself and moving the way she wants to. The disorder, however, doesn't affect Caroline's intelligence or her ability to love. She is very affectionate and has a great sense of humor. Caroline “speaks” with her eyes, and is very observant and engaged. She understands everything we say to her, even though she struggles to communicate back to us. She will soon begin special education preschool and receive various therapies while also benefiting from an individualized education program.

We are committed to giving Caroline a rich and happy life, but there's only so much we can do to shield her from the progression of Rett Syndrome.

But there is HOPE! In 2007, Rett Syndrome symptoms were reversed in lab mice. Girl Power 2 Cure raises funding for researchers who are working hard to find treatments for the disorder. Their research could lead to the reversal of Rett Syndrome symptoms in Caroline's lifetime!!!

On February 24th, 2013, Min (my sister) and I are running the Disney Princess Half Marathon to help Caroline win her fight against Rett Syndrome! Please consider sponsoring us. We are going to designate all of our team funds to research to help Caroline and other girls just like her.
