I will be running the Disney Princess Half Marathon in memory of my 4 year old niece, Anna Gutierrez. Go Team Anna Banana!!
Hello everyone! My niece, Anna, was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in February 2010. Rett Syndrome is a physically disabling disease that would not allow my niece to walk, talk, use her hands, or even sit on her own. My sister and brother in law had devoted their entire lives to help finding a cure. The Disney Princess Half Marathon is one of them. Anna LOVED Disney movies and would have loved to be in Disney World with us this February. Sadly, Anna went to be with the Lord this past September. Since day 1, Anna has been my inspiration for everything. She helped me find my passion in life: working with special needs children. After seeing everything that little girl had gone through, I had nothing to complain about. She taught me to be grateful for what I had, and to use my gifts and talents for people who need me.
After her passing in September, I decided to push myself harder than I thought possible. My sister and brother in law have done this marathon before, so I decided I was going to join them this year. I should tell you, I hate running. I could not even run a mile before I started training for this. Once again, Anna is my inspiration. Everytime I want to give up, I think of the struggles she went through every day. I continue pushing and running for Anna. I know she is giving all of us the strength to do this. We are running for you, Anna!
To do this, I need your help! Through my run, I am trying to raise money for Girl Power 2 Cure, Inc. a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome. Any donation is helpful and all donations are tax-deductable!! Thanks for your help!
