Missionaries Supporting Missionaries: A journey to Thailand.
My mission next February, I as chose to accept it, is to serve God by supporting other missionaries at a conference in Thailand. These missionaries are currently scattered throughout Asia, interacting with communities and spreading the Good News. While they attend the conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand, I, and others, will spend five days hanging out with their children of ages infant to 18 years old. We will learn about God and go on fun adventures around Chiang Mai. You can think of it as missionaries supporting missionaries.
This trip will take me down a different path than I am used to. Normally I dedicate my service to projects I can complete with my hands. I have only been on one other mission trip to Diablo, Mexico in 2008. Even then, we helped in the construction of a dormitory for the church. I have never before felt the calling to do anything outside of manual labor, until now. This time it is a different story. The mission trip to Thailand in 2013 was announced during one of our church services. I looked at my beloved wife and said, "That sounds kind of fun." She was surprised, but encouraged me to go. As I develop in the role of a father, there is critical lesson I want my son, and future children, to realize: we are placed on this earth to glorify God. Though I will not be directly discipling to those in need, I can still glorify Him by supporting those who do. Since raising my son, I find myself enjoying the company of children, more so than before. My son has opened my eyes and my heart. As a father, I have come to realize how valuable the help of others truly is.
This is a wonderful opportunity to support our Christian community. My faith has continued to strengthen over the past few years. It was in 2009 that I was baptized, and since then I progress in my love and understanding for God. Now, I am in a position I never thought I would be in, Missionary work. I have to admit, I am pretty nervous and yet, at the same time, excited. Then I try to place myself in the thoughts of the missionaries we are helping and could only imagine how excited they are to receive our help.
Just as the missionaries at the Thailand conference need my help with their children, I need your help gathering the funds needed to fulfill this calling. God may not have called you to travel to another country for his purposes, but he may be calling you to help me go. Whatever amount you can contribute to support this cause will place me one step further in meeting my fundraising goal. Thank you for providing me your time and efforts. If you cannot donate funds towards this mission, please donate your prayers for me, for my team members, for our safety, health, and that God’s will would be done in Thailand.
