Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity

Widowed, broke, and out of their home.

This describes a young family in our community, and we are asking for your help in transforming their lives.

One family- mom, dad, and their six children, lifelong residents of southeast Minnesota- were struck by tragedy when the father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in August 2008. Extreme financial hardship followed, and despite her best efforts to sell their home, the survivors also became victims of the national foreclosure crisis.

While still dealing with their immense grief, the mother and her children worked hard to get back on their feet. Mom enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at RCTC, and rented an older home for her family. She is now working full time, going to school part time at night for her nursing degree, and raising six children on her own.

Can you help build a home for this family, so they can rebuild their lives?

Mom is doing her best to increase her earning capacity, and to provide financial and emotional stability for her children. She is humble and hard-working, and neither needs nor wants “something for nothing.” This family is exactly the people whom Habitat for Humanity exists to serve. A “hand up,” not a “hand out,” will enable these seven members of our community to become lifelong productive citizens.
