River Valley Riders a Therapeutic Horseback Riding and Carriage Driving Program for people with special needs.
As most of you know, each Wednesday, I take Ruby and Newman and we volunteer for River Valley Riders therapeutic horseback riding program. We have been doing this for 5 years. It is the best thing I have ever done with my horses.
Ruby and Newman are Appaloosa's. They both started very young. Ruby started when she was 5 years old and Newman was just 3. This is very young for therapy horses but they both have quiet calm temperments and really seem to love what they do. It has been a perfect match for the program. I am very proud of these two.
Therapeutic riding has proved to be so beneficial to so many people. Due to the already huge and growing need and our long waiting list, our program has recently purchased beautiful land in Afton in hopes of making year round riding possible. We have much work to do. So far we have an outdoor riding arena, parking lot and in the next few weeks, outdoor lighting. We still have a long way to go to reach our goals.
On June 23rd, 2012, Newman and I will be participating in our annual Ride-A-Thon.
My goal this year is to raise $2000! If there is any way you can help, it would be so much appreciated. No donation is too small and every single dollar counts!! **For those of you who work for larger corporations, many of them have programs that will match what their employees donate-see if yours does too.**
Help me make year round riding a reality!
