Rinad's Greece Trip

There are more individuals in slavery today than there were at the height of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, more today than there ever were before in our global history. Human trafficking is estimated to be a $32 billion industry, affecting 161 countries worldwide. An estimated 12.3 million women and children are trafficked for commercial sex around the world today. I am taking a trip to Greece to work with a powerful international organization called The A21 Campaign that fights human trafficking, provides awareness and resources, and a safe haven for victims of the sex slave industry.

Greece is known as the center of trafficking in Europe, and is the primary gateway for trafficked victims to enter the European Union. Approximately 20,000 women, including 1 000 girls between the ages of
13-15, remain in the Greek sex industry. After a trafficking journey that typically involves deception, rape, beatings, and constant threats, victims are often forced to live in confining and unsanitary conditions. Once formally put to work, human trafficking victims can be forced to service from 40 to 110 customers in one day. Malnutrition, sleep deprivation, as well as emotional and physical abuse become part of the day-to-day routine. The A21's mission isfour-fold and can be found on their website:
