Rice Nourish aims to create a set of reusable self-directed learning kits that would allow elementary aged students to teach themselves basic math, science, and English skills.
The natives of the island of Roatan live amongst consistently high poverty levels and frighteningly low literacy rates. Only twenty-five percent of school-aged children are regularly enrolled in school and only half of those complete the sixth grade. There is a lack of educational resources including enough schools for all of the children and enough teachers with a university education. Within the schools there is a limited number of teaching materials and school supplies.
The learning kits developed through this project will benefit the students by serving as the school, the teacher, and the materials. Our lesson plans will allow students to teach themselves basic skills in math, science, and English by working independently or with other students. By creating timeless lesson plans and offering quality materials we will be offering a solution that students can continue to use for years to come.
