REDEEMER CENTER FOR LIFE INC

When Harriett arrived from Uganda, she was dispossessed and alone. She moved into the 16 Plex building at Redeemer Center for Life and found a new community that filled her with purpose and new energy. Sitting in her apartment one day, she noticed a piece of land, where an abandoned house had been torn down, and thought, " Maybe someone would let me put a garden there." She gathered the community, including children, and set about creating the Redeemer Community Garden to nourish bodies and souls. These raised beds also raised spirits, as children and adults prepared over 900 meals from the vegetables grown there in two years to serve to the community. Children's camps added skating and biking to the mix, creating a community atmosphere of health and wellbeing. Redeemer Center for Life believes in empowering the community to be itself knowing that each of us brings gifts to the table of life together. We do this through 24 units of housing, the Peace Palace youth center, the Living Room community center and the community garden.
