RECLAIM! increases access to mental health support so LGBT youth may reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms.

Each day, the young people connected to RECLAIM! bravely move toward what they wish to reclaim in their own lives. A vision of social justice guides this work. RECLAIM! aims to bring mental health support directly to the most vulnerable LGBT youth where and when they need it, reducing barriers related to finances, transportation, scheduling, as well as cultural preferences for relating.

This work is supported by incredible contributions from the community. Each session or gathering at RECLAIM! we begin by saying, "Many people who you do not know and may never meet have given generously of themselves to make this support possible. They want you to know that you are beautiful just as you are. So if you are ever feeling alone or unloved, please remember this."

Participating youth say,

"This is my sanctuary; this is where I can truly be myself in the world even if there is no other place. However, it's more than where I can be myself, it's where I can become myself."

"When group ends every week, I feel much less alone in the universe, like there is a whole group of people who understand, and can relate and who all have my back in a world that can feel all too threatening towards transfolks. Just having a space I can go to and share my feelings about being trans and having almost everybody in the room nod their heads in empathy is priceless and has been vital to my emotional growth over the past few years."

This is what we do:

Individual and Family Counseling: Clients may present with a wide range of mental health concerns, including but not limited to gender identity, sexual orientation, substance abuse, sexual abuse, depression or anxiety. No one is turned away from counseling due to inability to pay. Recommended fee for service is the amount equivalent to what the client earns per hour. Documentation for hormones and for surgeries for clients who are transgender can be provided.

RECLAIM Families Group: RECLAIM Families is a support group for youth exploring their gender identity and the people who love them. Our meetings consist of one shared hour and one hour in which youth and their support people break into separate groups. We meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 1pm-3pm. Please call 612-235-6743 to request an intake prior to participation

Gender Exploration Group: An older youth group welcomes young people interested in exploring their gender identity in the company of other youth. Typical topics include decision making related to medical intervention, family relationships, communication, sex and love. A family group for families with younger adolescents who are gender non-conforming gives families the opportunity to meet with other families. Participants are encouraged to find their growing edge (wherever it may be) and lean into it with a bit of laughter and love.

Integrative Health Services: RECLAIM is proud to offer complementary modalities of care to enhance the ability of the client to integrate their physical experience, self-care and healing with the self understanding gained from talk therapy. Professional practitioners volunteer their time and knowledge by meeting 1-on-1 with clients offering support from a variety of disciplines including but not limited to acupuncture, chiropractic, nutrition, massage, and energy balancing.

Smoking Prevention and Intervention: RECLAIM! provides smoking prevention and intervention assessment tools specifically geared toward the needs and concerns of LGBT youth. Individually tailored support can be given when a person is ready to take steps to improve their physical and mental health.

Outreach Consultation: RECLAIM! staff will arrange to meet with youth in the community to provide initial consultation or crisis intervention if they are unable to travel to meet at the office due to barriers related to transportation, safety or mental health.

Community Trainings: RECLAIM! staff will provide trainings to community agencies who wish to improve their ability to provide culturally sensitive and age appropriate services to LGBT youth.

Please join the support for our work!
