Mission

At Read Seed Inc., we believe that every child should own books. That’s why it’s our mission to provide children from low-income families with the books that will help them build their literacy skills and achieve academic success.

Programs

Read Seed has been operating in the Triangle of North Carolina since 2002 and we have given out more than 40,000 books to children through numerous programs. With our Books in a Bag program and the help of NC HUD (Housing & Urban Development), we distribute new, age-appropriate books to every child in public housing, aged 0-7, in the counties of Durham, Roxboro, and Chapel Hill. Read Seed also partners with Durham Public Schools to provide books to elementary-school children through our Seeding Summer Reading program. Our other efforts to promote child literacy include Random Acts of Book Giving and our annual Read-A-Thon (more about Read-A-Thon can be found at www.readathon.vpweb.com )
