A devastating famine has killed 29000 children in Somalia alone. 15 million more people are at risk for starvation. Let's help.

Welcome to my fundraising page for the famine affecting people in Somalia, Kenya, Eriteria, Djibouti and Ethiopia.

Please take a look at the links posted below to learn more about the crisis and about how the World Food Program is helping people in the affected regions.

All employee donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by HR Solutions. So if you donate $30, an additional $30 will be donated to the World Food Program by HRS.

NEW! All non-employee donations will also be matched dollar-for-dollar by an anonymous grantor!

According to the WFP, "Just 50 US cents per day is enough to feed a hungry child or mother on the edge of survival."

To encourage you to donate, I am offering lots of different services/prizes with each donation amount. If you can think of a service/prize that's not listed but would be a good fit, let's talk (nothing illegal/weird please).

Thank you for your time...and money!

SERIOUS NOTE:

I did not put any incredibly sad pictures on this page to avoid guilt-trip donations. But this crisis is VERY REAL. Please check out the nytimes and denverpost photo pages (posted below) to see the people you will be helping.

Much of the Horn of Africa, which includes Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti, was struck in the summer of 2011 by one of the worst droughts in 60 years. http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/subjects/f/famine/index.html

For every person who takes this short quiz on the drought in the Horn of Africa, a child will receive a warm meal thanks to an anonymous donor to WFP. Test your knowledge, then challenge your friends! http://gifts.wfp.org/quiz/hornofafrica

In addition to the famine, the insurgent group Al-Shabab which controls parts of Somalia is blocking people from escaping the region. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/02/world/africa/02somalia.html
