RAINBOW RUMPUS
Give Out! Help John and Kyle’s kids hear stories about families like theirs.
Every child growing up in a LGBT family should have a vision of family that includes their own. Right now, children in these homes are likely to grow up never hearing a teacher or librarian share a story about a family like theirs. Your gift today will help children feel welcomed by sharing over five hundred books about LGBT-headed families at library events—and thousands more through our website in the coming year.
Rainbow Rumpus publishes the world‘s only online literary magazine for children and youth with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents. Kids and their parents visiting the Rainbow Rumpus website are able to access stories, downloadable books, art, and comics that feature families like theirs. Our stories are not about what it's like to be an LGBT-headed family, but rather about being a kid, being a family, having friends, and the experiences that all kids have in common. We also host events in partnership with libraries where kids get to hear stories of LGBT families and get free copies of our books. This enables kids from LGBT-headed homes to experience having their families welcomed in a public setting. Our website and events provide safe, fun, and empowering places for young people to create and enjoy stories and art, break through isolation, build community, and take action to make the world a better place.
As more states and countries are legalizing same-sex marriage we are receiving more requests for our materials. Your donation will help Rainbow Rumpus publish stories and books to meet the demand. These stories are vital to LGBT-headed households across the globe. Your gift will help children see that their families, and their experiences, matter.
