"Libraries are the heartbeat of most communities, but that's never more true than when discussing the libraries of special communities and subcultures. We all value preserving our LGBT past, but libraries help us create the future that we want by assisting research and becoming a central hub of the vital information exchange that takes place in our community. Our queer libraries are not just where we archive our past but position ourselves for a better future. Without libraries like the Quatrefoil Library, serving the information needs of the community--from newly out teens looking for evidence that 'it gets better ' to seasoned political activists seeking advice and contact information--our march toward equality and acceptance might be halted altogether. I hope that my fellow lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender folk, queers, and our allies not only support our libraries, but take advantage of the rich resources that they contain." Phil R

For 25 years the library has been making an impact on the GLBT Community locally and worldwide! This past year the Quatrefoil Library was:

• Was honored with a 2011 Pride Award from Lavender Magazine
• Completed the work on the 2010 Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant from the state of Minnesota to preserve its extensive collection of unique magazines and newspapers.
• Was the focus of a news story on Kare11 for donating books to a Pittsburgh GLBT library.
• Was featured on KFAI radio show, Fresh Fruit
• Was featured on local cable access show, BiCities
