Minnesota is one of the "top" states in the USA in terms of large-scale puppy mills. It is one of Minnesota's dirty little secrets.

Animal Ark is addressing this issue of large-scale, commercial puppy mills in several ways. Including the following:

* We have been taking direct action against operators we know are in violation of the law. This includes use of both the civil and criminal court systems in efforts to force these facilities to close or come into compliance with relevant laws.

* We have engaged a team of veterinarians to help inspect facilities when we have the opportunity to do so.

* We are working at the legislature to pass meaningful laws that would, for the first time, allow the State of Minnesota to regulate these businesses. We are working with a variety of small, responsible breeders while we do this to ensure they are not negatively impacted by the laws that result.

* Direct rescue of animals from these facilities.

I'd love to see the appropriate level of information on puppy mills in all schools in MN. One of the best weapons in this fight will surely be the hearts and heads of young people

This is an important cause to help end suffering of animals.

I helped start Friends of Animals of Carlton County back in 1987. In 1994 we confiscated 149 animals including dogs, horses, geese, chickens, rabbits and parakeets from a "mill" in Carlton County. It was very emotional but gratifying to help those with no voices.

As a proud owner of a puppy mill survivor, I know how crucial it is to put an end to puppy mills and irresponsible breeding. Thanks Animal Ark for all the work you do.
