Our short-term mission teams meet both the physical and spiritual needs of our partner communities throughout the island of Puerto Rico.
ABOUT THE CHURCH IN ARECIBO: The Iglesia de Cristo en Arecibo began meeting about forty-five years ago. The church is located just blocks from the housing projects and has become known as a bright light and beacon of hope in the Arecibo community. God is blessing the church with continued growth and on a recent Sunday they had 95 in attendance in a converted home that seats 80 comfortably with just one bathroom. You can imagine what a challenge it is for the church with one bathroom especially for the women, children and babies on a Sunday morning.
They also own a house located behind the existing church building. This house has been used for additional classroom space, one additional bathroom, and sleeping space for mission groups coming in to serve. Having this facility helps immensely to keep the costs down in bringing in mission teams to help with the local ministry and outreach of the church. But being a separate building makes for limited functionality especially when the weather is bad.
Their plans are to build a new worship auditorium seating approximately 175 that would be connected to the house behind the existing church building. The house would also be expanded as part of this project with larger bathrooms and classrooms added, as well as an expanded fellowship and kitchen area. There will still be three rooms designated as bedrooms with a complete bath for mission teams to continue to utilize but when not there can be used for more classroom and activity space. Once complete the existing church building in front would be leveled to make room for parking. Their budget for this building project is a total of $40,000 of which the church currently has approx. $25,000 in their building fund. The church is excited about starting construction of their new building in early 2013 and are doing their part to make that happen.
There are several ways you can help. Your prayers, of course, are most important. Secondly, your financial support of this project is needed to have all the funds needed to complete the building and furnish it with everything needed to meet the needs of their growing church and their community. Please consider a gift of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more. And third, you might consider being a part of one of the construction teams that will be going to Arecibo, P.R. in 2013.
