Across the decades and through many struggles, progressive Jews in America have answered the call to justice. In our mother tongues, we have said – “Mir Zaynen Do , Estamos Aquí , We Are Here .” Roused by ancient words of Torah and inspired by our roots in the labor and civil rights movements, PJA members of all generations, affiliations and backgrounds have declared – “Hineini . Here I Am .”

But these are even tougher times for the rapidly expanding class of 1 in 7 Americans who now live below the poverty line, working harder and harder for less. PJA will continue putting Jewish feet on the street in the struggle for economic equality:

• Advocating for the transformation of L.A.’s food deserts with good jobs and healthy food
• Seeking justice for 10,000 mistreated and underpaid mercado workers in the Bay Area

Say “ Here I Am ” in the fight against fear and hatred. These are frightening times. In the media, in the courts, and on the street, PJA has fought for equality, opportunity and hope:

• Joining legal efforts to stop discrimination against immigrants, to win marriage equality, and to relieve overcrowding in California’s prisons
• Defending religious freedom by advocating for Muslims’ right to worship

Empower the next generation of Jews to say “ Here I Am ” in their call to leadership. Through our nationwide Jeremiah Fellowship Program, PJA serves as the vehicle through which young, often unaffiliated Jews embrace their Jewish identity and advance their social justice values.
