Planned Parenthood Association of Utah is the largest provider in women’s reproductive health care in the state of Utah, and has been serving the Park City community since 1987. Serving the Park City community is a critical service we provide to the uninsured where there are limited options to access affordable reproductive health care. The hours of operation are Monday, 11-5pm, Wednesday 11– 7pm, and Friday 9- 5 pm, scheduling medical exams every Wednesday and Friday. 97% of the clients we serve in Park City are uninsured and living below the poverty level. With an annual household income below $25,000, lower income women have less flexibility in their spending, and are accessing our affordable and subsidized medical services to change their fertility preferences.

A letter to Planned Parenthood Association of Utah:

Dear Planned Parenthood,

With all this birth control controversy headlining our news lately...and especially Mitt Romney's remarks that he would do away with Planned Parenthood if given the chance, I thought I had to drop you a line of deep, sincere gratitude for my life.

I was born and raised in Utah - not a Mormon, but still immersed in the culture that encourages early marriage. I was engaged at the young age of 19 and married just after turning 20. I lost my parents' insurance coverage when I married and as a struggling student, could not afford my own health insurance, nor could my young husband. I am so glad that I knew that I absolutely did not want children at that time and knew I could turn to Planned Parenthood for affordable birth control. Scraping together money to afford my reduced-cost regular depo shots was hard enough, so I can imagine how detrimental it would be for girls and women to not have this option, having to pay out-of-pocket for regular-priced birth control. That is an absolutely frightening thought.

Thanks to Planned Parenthood, I was able to earn my BS and my MA degrees at Utah State University without the worries of having to support a child I could not afford. I moved on to a career in social research at a highly-esteemed Eastern university and, after 10 years of marriage, decided I was ready to take on the role of motherhood. I now have two beautiful daughters and I couldn't imagine my world without them. I know that being able to plan my family was key in making me a much better mother. Who knows what my life would be now if I had become a mother at such a young age? I knew when I was ready. I will never be able to repay the life you paved for me. Your organization and the work you do to raise funds for anyone in the same shoes I was in is absolutely vital and I will do anything to stand by you, even if we have to revert back a hundred years and march for this service. A million thanks!!

Always,

Jennifer Hodgkinson
