To enrich the skills, prospects and spirit of North Minneapolis youth and adults in partnership with families and communities.

PCYC's major program divisions include these:

(1) Education - including the PYC Arts & Tech High School, serving high school youth at risk of educational failure. The high school offers arts integrated into core academic subjects plus theater, music and video production and spoken word classes, an in-school adolescent health clinic, after-school and summer programs, post-secondary, vocational and career counseling, community engagement and service learning, and assistance with higher education access and costs.

(2) Youth and Family Development Programs, including out-of-school time programming for elementary and middle school students with academics, youth leadership and healthy living emphases, and the Capri Summer Theater Arts Institute for middle school youth. This division also operates Choice Information and Support Services (CISS), a program in support of students and families participating in the Voluntary Public School Choice program.

(3) The Capri Theater and its many cultural arts programs, such as PCYC-produced performances including the Legends Jazz Series, collaborative programming with St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Illusion Theater, MacPhail, and many others, and support to established, emerging and new artists and arts groups renting the Capri Theater for their events/productions. With the PYC High School, the Capri also offers North Minneapolis high school students the opportunity to study theater under the direction of professional actors in CAST (Capri After School Theater), a program offered in collaboration with the Children's Theatre Company.

(4) Community building and community revitalization/development efforts along the West Broadway Commercial Corridor in North Minneapolis to strengthen neighborhood livability and economic development.

(1) We are tackling the "achievement gap," or difference in academic achievement between youth of color and others. For the past three summers, ALL elementary students in our Summer Enrichment program maintained their reading levels over the summer, avoiding the "summer slide." Our After School Enrichment Program also helped students register a second year of above average reading growth.

(2) The After School and Summer Enrichment Programs have become models for replication and funding by the Northside Achievement Zone, with expansion funded through a $28 million federal Promise Neighborhood Grant.

(3) We are ensuring that North Minneapolis youth, and particularly those youth who have not faired well in other schools, are on track to graduate. Last year, more than 80% of our students had successful educational outcomes, and our graduating class in June 2012 was one of our largest ever.

(4) In November, 2011, Minnesota Monthly named the Capri Theater "best jazz venue in the Twin Cities."
