We are raising funds to provide education for the 21 boys living in the HALO Makarere Orphanage Home in Kampala, Uganda.
I am an advisor for the Pilgrim Fellowship youth group at First Church of Christ in Simsbury, CT. Through my experiences in this role I was fortunate enough to meet Peter Ssegembe. As a boy, Peter lived in the Makarere Orphanage Home in Kampala Uganda. While there, Peter gained an education and learned values of love, compassion, and respect for all people. Peter was able to graduate from college and is now married with a baby girl. He and his family live in Uganda where he is involved in helping children who are in the care of homes like the Makarere Orphanage.
The Makarere Home provides education and other essential services to 21 boys currently in its care. Our youth group has decided to raise funds to help with the efforts to educate the these young people. We have set a goal to raise $6250 through a dance-a-thon we will hold at First Church from 7 pm to midnight on April 8, 2011. This amount will pay for a full year of education for all 21 boys. Compare that to the approximately $8000 it costs to provide one year of education for each child that attends public school in my town.
We have an opportunity to help give these boys hope for a bright future, but we need your support. My personal goal is to raise $350. Please consider donating $10 or more to this cause.
The HALO Foundation provides food, water, shelter, clothing, education, art therapy, caretakers, medical services, and vocational training to orphans and at-risk children worldwide. They also provide opportunities for American youth to learn about volunteerism and philanthropy. For more infomation about HALO, please view the YouTube video above and the web links below.
