For 13 months Peter and Joey will be volunteering with Manna Project International in Los Chillos Valley in Ecuador.
Hello friends and family,
As many of you may already know, we are currently volunteering for 13 months in Ecuador with the NGO Manna Project International (MPI). Our first 8 months (time flies...) have been very rewarding and eye opening, and we’re looking forward to making more progress and learning even more over the next 7 months.
As stated on the MPI website, “MPI volunteers live together near the communities of focus in order to promote exposure to daily challenges, experience life in the community, and build a sense of one community. A specific geographical focus allows us to pursue holistic development and build relationships with community members. It also lends itself to impacts that are visible and measurable, and ensures that our efforts in different programs and projects positively reinforce each other.”
Our view is that the MPI experience is a mutually beneficial cultural exchange where volunteers and community members alike learn and work together in order to improve community life via teamwork, education, economic development, and personal growth.
In Rumiloma and Fajardo, the two small towns where we work, our main resource and locus of development is a community center equipped with a library, teen center, exercise and cooking facilities and preventative health center. At our center we teach various courses such as English and nutrition, as well as facilitating new programs based on feedback from the community. In addition, we are able to foster partnerships with other local organizations with the same goals of community development in mind.
To be able to continue our work successfully and efficiently for the full 13-month commitment, we both need to raise $8,900 to cover living expenses, programmatic funds, and insurance costs. If you are interested in our cause and find yourself willing and able to contribute financially, any amount is immensely appreciated.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact either one of us.
Thank you for your support!!
Desde Ecuador con amor,
Peter and Joey
