We are thrilled to be running our first marathon together, in Boston and for Summer Search.
Summer Search Boston is a non-profit organization that focuses on leadership development for low-income high school students in the Boston area. Currently, Summer Search is serving 375 area students in three primary ways: providing weekly mentoring, awarding scholarships for summer experiences with programs like Outward Bound, and providing college advising.
Since 2005, Summer Search Boston has nearly tripled in size, and the results have been phenomenal: 100% of Summer Search students have graduated from high school, and 89% have graduated, or remain on track to graduate, from college! This is particularly encouraging since the college graduation rate for Boston Public High School students is just 14%.
Summer Search's mission means a lot to us. As many of you know, Perry has been working with low-income youth for many years and currently teaches a juvenile justice clinic at the University of Minnesota Law School. For the youth served by the clinic, the types of services provided by Summer Search can literally mean the difference between a diploma and a residential youth facility. Unfortunately, for every student Summer Search is able to help, there are many others who it simply does not have the capacity to reach. For this reason, we are really committed not only to sustaining Summer Search Boston, but also doing all we can to help it expand.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity. We are truly grateful.
