Pencils of Promise

At Pencils of Promise, we believe that education is a basic human right. We are a passionate community of individuals collectively creating a nonprofit that empowers each person regardless of status or position to make a positive impact on the world. Together, we build sustainable schools, partnerships and solutions to enable basic education for underserved children in the developing world.

PoP was founded in October 2008 with humble ambitions to simply build one school in the developing world. In December 2009 we will open the doors to our third school for 135 children in rural Laos, with ambitions to build at least 15 new schools in 2010. How has this happened? Because people believe in our new approach to nonprofits. We believe every single contribution should be valued. We believe that the most important partner is the community itself, which must actively participate in the construction and on-going sustainability of their school. We believe in prioritizing passion amongst our members... and most importantly, we believe that donors should have the opportunity to see all of their dollars go towards school projects. 100% of web donations go directly into schools.
