Peace in the Park is a grassroots celebration showcasing local efforts to address the issues facing our community and our world.

In the tradition of peace building, Peace in the Park brings together individuals and groups who are crafting a culture of peace, justice and community.

During the 2009-10 school year, students at Centennial Elementary School in Loveland constructed a paper chain with each link describing an act of kindness observed throughout the year. The project was part of Rachel's Challenge, a program created in the memory of Rachel Scott who died in the Columbine shootings.

By focusing on positive experiences, the students created a "chain reaction of kindness" long enough to circle the entire school. It is small initiatives like these, occurring at the local level, that ultimately lead to a more peaceful world -- and that we seek to showcase in our Peace in the Park Festival.
