Running and education are two of my passions. What could be better a better cause than to run the Boston Marathon in support of the work of Bottom Line?

Training for the Boston Marathon is a challenge. But college success is a much longer and harder "marathon" and most low income and first generation students don't make it. Bottom Line is working to change that. In 2008-09 nearly 100% all Bottom Line students were accepted into at least one college and 74% of Bottom Line's students graduate in six years or less, more than twice the average graduation rate for all Boston high school students. Learn more about their amazing work at www.bottomline.org.

As a member of "Team Go Far" I have met some of the students.  Here is the story of Laila Abdul Nabi, Malden High School 2010.   Laila was born in Afghanistan and lived in Pakistan with her family for 7 years. Her father was killed by the Taliban and after his death, the Taliban continued to pursue her brothers. Laila and her family lived in a house with no roof and little food. Her family moved to the United States 3 years ago, escaping the war.  Laila works 22 hours a week at McDonald's to help support her family. In her spare time, she volunteers at a food pantry and participates in the Fine Arts Club and the Interact Club at her school.

After not attending school for most of her life, Laila has quickly progressed in her studies and is now determined to attend a competitive college. Her mother is on disability and will most likely not be able to help her with college expenses. Laila has applied to Bryn Mawr College, Boston College, Yale and Boston University.

Please help me to help Bottom Line support students like Laila. 100% of your donations goes directly to Bottom Line!
