I am running for Team EMC for the Michael Linslow Respite Center which provides support for persons of disabilities and their families.

My Name is Pat Gelsinger and I'm part of the Executive Leaderhip Team at EMC and a part time resident of Hopkinton

This will be my second running running for EMC and for the Michael Linslow Center. Boston '11 was my first ever Marathon and I began my training with some trepidation. However, living in Hopkinton and having just turned 50, I was challenged and encouraged to run. I had run quite a bit in High School but, that was over 30 years ago. 26.2 miles -- what was I thinking? Further, I committed to running the Great Wall Half Marathon with Team EMC just five weeks after Boston. Really - What was I thinking?

Getting to race day healthy and prepared was challenging. However, spending some time at the Respite Center inspired and encouraged me beyond my expectations. The spirit of the center and the staff, their encouragement and their passion for the people and their families is truly inspiring. While my motivations were a bit selfish maybe and the Respite Center team was the way to do it, my attitude changed quickly after enjoying the time at the center and becoming famiiar with their work.

Running this year will of course demand the same training and commitment to complete and maybe a new personal best. However, my attitude is different as I prepare. Running for a great cause is simply delightful. Better yet, my son Josiah is also running with me on the Respite Center team (support him as well!). A Father, a Son and a great cause - I'm a truly blessed man.

I hope you'd consider supporting the center and supporting my run is just one way to do so. At a minimum, please go to their web site and get to know more about the great work they do in our extended community. May God Bless you in all you do.

Pat.
