I am raising money to go on a missions trip to Panama City, Panama, with the Minnesota District Assemblies of God in August.
Can you envision a place where the youth are hungry to hear the gospel of Jesus, but are in need of a safe place to go to get away from abuse in their homes? I want to share with you a ministry opportunity God has presented to me. From July 29 – August 6, I will be going to Panama City, Panama with a team of about 100 women from the Minnesota District of the Assemblies of God. Our trip will focus on planning, hosting, and executing a girls conference for the whole city of Panama City.
Panama City is one of the gateways to human trafficking in Central America. 1 in 5 containers that travel through the Panama Canal carries trafficked girls in it. Incest is also prevalent in many homes in the city and has become an open door for girls to be easily persuaded into the sex slave industry. Girls literally do not want to go home at the end of the day. Panama City officials want to do everything they can to make the city known for being a safe and life-giving place for these girls to grow up. They have invited missionaries Gerritt and Tara Kenyon to host a conference for young girls in the city this summer. We will be introducing, at the conference, a new center that Missionaries Gerritt and Tara Kenyon are preparing, that will serve as a refuge and a place of encouragement for young people during difficult seasons of life. The public officials have even opened public schools for the Gospel to be shared in the classrooms because they know the kind of positive difference God’s Word makes in people’s lives (this is not a Christian government). The people are incredibly open and hungry for God’s truth and the true hope found only in Christ.
I'm humbled with the opportunity and experience that lies ahead. I heard about this opportunity at our Women’s Conference at the end of March, and knew right away that I needed to go. I have never done anything like this before, but the leading I feel to go is so strong I cannot describe it. I hope you see the value in what we will accomplish. As you can imagine, a trip like this requires financial support from a number of people. I need to raise $1,600 by June 15th. If you can support me in a financial way, I would be very grateful. And, most importantly, I also need your prayer support. Prayer is the fuel that will allow us to be successful as we follow God's leading in ministry in this city. Without prayer, nothing will happen.
