Global Health Network seeks to serve the poorest districts in northern Uganda by providing sustainable health services and health education.

What is the problem?

  • The Oyam District has 343,000 people, 67% of whom live on less than 70 cents a day. Because of this, there is very high prevalence of communicable and uncommunicable diseases, inadequate distribution of healthcare services and a lack of provisions for everyone. The district’s infant mortality rate is 114 out of 1,000 live births. Only 29% of births are assisted by trained attendants. Overall, there is a lack of health services for those who need it.

How will this project begin to solve the problem?

Global Health Network - Uganda aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of health and sanitation issues in the community
  • Increase the availability of facilities for proper health and sanitation at the community level
  • Initiate and support child and mother nutrition, as well as birth and death registration
  • Increase the number of trained village health officials to 100
  • Increase the level of telemedicine to ensure quality health care in village
  • Maintain excellent relations with beneficiaries and government officials to maintain excellent transparency about the progress of the project.

What will be the long term impact of this project?

  • This 3 year initiative will be monitored every six months to check on progress with infant mortality and other factors. Sexual health education will be on-going during the initiative and will hopefully lead to a well-informed community, and ultimately to fewer preventable diseases and lower infant mortality.
  • The long term impact will be to empower the community to address problems plaguing it. Ultimately, the community will lead a higher standard of living because of this important health initiative.
