Help support our team from Sinai Hospital to Haiti this March 2013!
Operation Rainbow Team Sinai will be returning to Adventiste Hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti this coming March 2013. This is our fourth trip to Haiti since the earthquake of 2010. Each year, we provide free orthopedic surgery to children and adults. Many are suffering from residual problems from injuries sustained in the earthquake, but the majority of our patients are now children with birth defects such as clubfoot, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy.
We typically do 30-45 operations in one week. Follow-up care is provided by a local orthopedic surgeon who we work with during our mission. Most of our patients are very poor and disenfranchised, many still living in tents, now three years after the earthquake.
Our team, numbering 16, includes nurses, technicians, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. We stay in the hospital compound, and work hard through the week to provide as much care as we can safely provide. We carry all the surgical equipment, medications, bandages, cast material, and other donations in our luggage. Conditions are spartan, but the spirit is strong!
Thank you for helping out!
