November 14-20 is Homeless and Hunger Awareness Week. Help Itasca County end homelessness.

As we approach the holiday season and families celebrate their traditions, National Hunger and Homelessness Week brings to mind the families and children who don’t have enough food or shelter. In Itasca County, there are 5,200 individuals living in poverty. 1,026 are children. Shelter and supportive services were provided to 1,175 at risk or homeless individuals in Itasca County last year. Deep budget cuts are resulting in many families being turned away from services. Please help us fill the gap. There is a collaboration of agencies that work tirelessly to provide shelter to those in need in Itasca County. The staff from each of the following agencies can access your contribution to help the people they are working with: Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Council Homeless Youth, Advocates for Family Peace, Salvation Army, GRACE House, Men’s PEER House (men’s transitional), and Kootasca Crisis Housing Program.

This is such a great event. To listen to the homeless people tell their stories is heartwrenching. Our community needs to step up and help stot homlessness. It could be you!!
