My name is Katrena Kugler, I’m a federal Volunteer with AmeriCorps VISTA, Ohio Campus Compact, and as part of the connective tissue for the community I serve, I bring people together to get things done in the name of “poverty alleviation.” My VISTA year has been so successful; I have learned about federal assistance programs, people experiencing all kinds of need, community services, and everyone willing to step up to the plate and assist others, no matter why or whom. I have worked with community partners organizing an event to benefit armed forces veterans with resources, as well as collaborating with a faculty member to include service projects into her curriculum so that students learning about resume building and interview skills can present that information to area job seekers who otherwise might not be able to afford the services of or have access to a real human being to make themselves more marketable to employers. This tax season, I’ll be translating free tax filing benefits for those more comfortable speaking Spanish. Most meaningful for me about this position is my growing faith in and respect for community investment in service and other Volunteers’ efforts the more involved I become: I see now how I can really make a difference through volunteering, using my education, background, and concern for these folks.
This page supports the non-profit, Ohio Campus Compact, who hired me and supports all of us Volunteers with our work, but has not received as many federal dollars as it needed and is trying to find creative ways to continue to provide its Volunteers with the training and support we need to make it a successful year of service. I’m proud to be a federal Volunteer, thankful for this opportunity for growth and investment in my country, and hope that you will support our cause. Please consider a donation to Ohio Campus Compact through this Razoo page; we appreciate any amount you can give. We thank you very, very much!
