Numbers Work!

Numbers Work! is a new program designed to equip preschoolers at high risk of academic failure with early math skills. Inspired by Words Work!, the successful early literacy program of the F.R. Bigelow Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation, the program takes a proactive approach to closing the state’s achievement gap by preparing preschoolers for math education in grade school and beyond. Studies show that student’s math skills upon entering kindergarten is a strong indicator of future school success.

Research shows that a majority of preschool teachers feel uncomfortable with math instruction. Numbers Work! tackles that anxiety by providing math coaches, training, and resources. Families are given take-home math kits and participate in family fun events.

2. Shape and spatial sense
3. Measurement
4. Patterns
5. Data analysis (graphs and charts)
