NORTHWEST SUBURBAN DINNER AT YOUR DOOR
A verified US-registered nonprofit
Northwest Suburban Dinner at Your Door delivers nutritious noon meals to the homebound in the NW suburbs. Meals are delivered by volunteers.
In 1973, a handful of women from several different churches in Crystal, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley and New Hope met to discuss the growing need for a home delivered meal program in their area. They formed Northwest Suburban Dinner at Your Door (DAYD), a non-profit, independent, ecumenical program designed to serve the homebound. We deliver about 135 meals each day by volunteer drivers. Here are a few examples of some of our clients:
v Physically or mentally disabled
v Those recovering from surgery and unable to prepare their own meals as of yet
v Elderly – those still in their homes but unable to drive to get groceries or who find it difficult to prepare a nutritious meal
DAYD is independent, we receive no federal monies! We rely on financial donations from individuals, civic groups and churches to keep our program going. Clients have only to show a need for our service to receive meals. No financial information is required. Our board members and bookkeeping is done on a volunteer basis. We have 2 paid part time employees that implement our program on a daily basis and coordinate meal delivery. Clients pay what our meal cost is. Donations received are used for subsidizing meals for those who can’t pay and also for supplies, salaries and insurance. We also rely on the donation of time from 16 volunteer drivers everyday! Drivers come from local churches, civic organizations, businesses and individuals. Our drivers do more than just deliver a meal. For many clients, this driver might be the only person they see all day. A friendly face with a hot meal can make all the difference. Donors can give to DAYD two ways: financially or time. Many folks can’t give money but they can give their time to deliver meals. We welcome your help! We can be a direct extension of your hands helping others to stay independent and in their own homes.
